For decades, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been one of the most commonly diagnosed hormonal disorders among women of reproductive age. Affecting an estimated 1 in 8 women worldwide, the condition has long been misunderstood—partly because its name was misleading. Now, after years of research, consultation, and advocacy, experts have officially renamed PCOS to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).
This change is more than cosmetic. It reflects a deeper understanding of the condition’s complexity and aims to reduce confusion for patients and healthcare providers alike.
